AN EXHIBITION DURING

DAYDAYGAY /

DUTCH DESIGN WEEK 2017

-

POLARI IS A FORM OF CANT SLANG USED IN BRITAIN BY THE GAY SUBCULTURE.

IT ALLOWS THE GAY COMMUNITY TO TALK IN CODE. IT IS A SEXY, FUN, SHADY, CATTY MEANS OF COMMUNICATION TO EXPRESS YOUR SEXUALITY.

-

WITH THE USE OF PHOTOGRAPHY IN DIFFERENT SPECIFIED COLLAGES, I TRY TO GET THE IMAGE ACROSS THROUGH A REACTION.

DOES A HIDDEN LANGUAGE COME FROM SOMETHING WE ARE ASHAMED OF OR WE DO NOT WANT TO ACCEPT.

DO WE HAVE TO CONFORM TO A

CERTAIN RULE?

It exists where, for reasons of safety and connection, people use terms only they and their circle can use, words which would confuse an outsider and, much like Polari, become the hallmark of acceptance were it to be taught to you.
